10 Ways to Keep Your Car Clean Between Professional Details

A professional detail resets your car. These ten simple habits keep it looking that way for weeks longer — without damaging the paint or interior in the process.

Make the Detail Last

There's no better feeling than driving away in a freshly detailed car. The question is how long that feeling lasts. With a few easy habits, a detail can stay looking fresh for weeks longer — and the next one goes faster because there's less to fix.

1. Keep a Car Cleaning Kit in the Trunk

A small bag with a few clean microfiber towels, a bottle of quick detailer, interior wipes, and a trash bag handles most everyday messes before they set in.

2. Deal With Bird Droppings the Same Day

Bird droppings are acidic and LA sun bakes them on fast. Soften with quick detailer or water and lift them off gently with a microfiber — never wipe them dry. Our guide to removing bird droppings, sap, and tar covers the safe method.

3. Never Dry-Wipe Dust Off the Paint

It's tempting to swipe dust off the hood with your hand or a towel. That drags grit across the clear coat and creates swirl marks. If the car is dusty, rinse it.

4. Stay Out of Automatic Brush Washes

One trip through a brush tunnel can add more swirls than months of normal driving. If you need a quick clean, a touchless rinse or a careful hand wash is far safer.

5. Use All-Weather Floor Mats

Rubber mats catch sand, mud, and spills and can be rinsed off in seconds. They're especially useful if you hit the beach in Santa Monica or Venice often.

6. Empty the Trash Every Time You Fill Up or Charge

Make it a routine. Wrappers, cups, and receipts pile up fast and attract smells.

7. Clean Spills Immediately

Blot, don't rub. A spill handled in the first few minutes usually comes out completely. A spill that sits through a hot afternoon becomes a stain and an odor.

8. Park Smart

  • •Avoid parking under trees that drop sap, flowers, or attract birds
  • •Use shade or a carport when you can — sun fades paint and dries out interiors
  • •Watch out for sprinkler zones that leave hard water spots

9. Use a Sunshade

A windshield sunshade keeps the interior cooler and protects the dashboard, steering wheel, and seats from UV damage and cracking. More in our guide to protecting leather in hot LA weather.

10. Protect the Paint

Protected paint stays cleaner and is easier to wash. Wax lasts weeks, sealant lasts months, and ceramic coating lasts years. The slicker the surface, the less dirt sticks.

Or Let Us Keep It That Way

The easiest way to keep a car consistently clean is a regular schedule. Our maintenance plan brings a professional detail to your driveway on a set schedule, so the car never gets far from showroom condition.
