Why Detailing Pricing Differs by Vehicle Class

It's one of the most common questions we get, especially from clients who are pricing out a detail for the first time. The short answer: more surface area, more interior volume, more time. Let me break it down properly.

At DG Detailing, every package is offered in three vehicle classes:

• •Coupe — Two-door vehicles, sports cars, small sedans (Honda Civic coupe, BMW 3 Series coupe, Mustang, Camaro)
• •Sedan — Four-door standard vehicles (Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, Tesla Model 3)
• •SUV / Truck — Full-size SUVs, crossovers, pickup trucks (Range Rover, Ford F-150, Chevy Suburban, Tesla Model X, Jeep Grand Cherokee)

Some vehicles fall between categories. When in doubt, we price by actual size and complexity — not by what the manufacturer calls the body style. Email us a photo if you're not sure where your vehicle falls.

Coupes have the smallest surface area of any vehicle category we service. Less hood, smaller roof, smaller trunk lid, no rear doors. That translates directly to fewer panels to wash, fewer surfaces to clay bar, fewer areas to apply sealant.

Inside, coupes typically have less seating area and smaller carpet footprints. Our Basic Coupe Detail starts at $105 and takes about 90 minutes. That 90 minutes reflects the actual scope of a properly executed detail on a two-door vehicle.

Standard four-door sedans are the most common vehicle we detail across Greater LA. More surface area than a coupe, more interior space — but not dramatically larger. The pricing difference between coupe and sedan (roughly $20–$30 per tier) reflects the additional time required, not a different quality of work.

Our Basic Sedan Detail starts at $125 and takes about 2 hours.

The surface area and interior volume difference between a sedan and an SUV or truck is significant:

• •Exterior: Hoods are wider and longer, roofs extend further, there are more doors, tailgates or liftgates add surface area, and trucks have bed areas that need attention
• •Interior: Three rows of seating in full-size SUVs means significantly more carpet, more seat fabric or leather, more door panels, and more hard surface area to clean or steam
• •Time: A Gold SUV/Truck Detail takes approximately 6 hours — a full hour longer than the Gold Coupe at the same tier

Our Gold SUV/Truck Detail starts at $505. That's the realistic price for 6 hours of professional, thorough work on a large vehicle.

Vehicle class sets the starting price. Condition can affect the final quote in specific situations:

• •Severe interior neglect: Heavy pet hair, extreme food or beverage contamination, or deeply embedded odors may require additional time and products
• •Paint in need of correction: If your paint has significant swirl marks, water spots, or oxidation beyond what a clay bar addresses, paint correction may be recommended as an add-on
• •Long period without care: A vehicle that hasn't been detailed in 12+ months typically takes longer at every step
