More Than Just "Bigger"
Clients sometimes assume SUV and truck detailing is simply a longer version of a sedan detail — more surface area, more time, same process. That's mostly true, but there are real differences in technique, equipment, and what to expect that are worth understanding before you book.
Why SUVs and Trucks Take Longer
A midsize SUV has roughly 30–40% more exterior surface area than a sedan, and interior volume that's proportionally even larger once you account for third rows, cargo areas, and higher seating positions with more surfaces to reach. For our Gold SUV/Truck Detail, that translates to real time differences:
- •Exterior hand wash: More panels, taller reach points (roof lines, upper pillars), and larger wheel wells mean 30–45 minutes more than an equivalent sedan wash
- •Interior detailing: Third-row seats, larger cargo areas, and higher seat tracks with more crevices add significant time to vacuuming and shampoo work
- •Clay bar and sealant: More surface area to decontaminate and seal, proportional to the vehicle's size
What Changes Technique-Wise
Wheel wells and undercarriage splash areas on trucks, especially those used for any light off-road or unpaved-lot driving, accumulate more embedded grime than a typical sedan sees. We spend more time on wheel well decontamination for trucks specifically because that area is where road salt and grit concentrate.
Roof and upper panel access requires different positioning — SUVs and trucks are tall enough that hand-washing the roof properly means working from a stable stance rather than reaching over a lower sedan roofline. We account for this in scheduling.
Cargo area and third-row detailing is genuinely different work from sedan trunk cleaning. Cargo areas collect a different type of debris — think sports equipment, groceries, pet hair, tools — and often have exposed carpet or plastic liner that needs different treatment than a finished sedan trunk.
Running boards and lower rocker panels, common on trucks and larger SUVs, are a magnet for road grime and require dedicated attention that a sedan detail doesn't need to budget for.
Truck Beds: A Special Case
If you have a truck with an open bed, let us know what it's used for before your appointment. A bed used for hauling mulch, tools, or work equipment needs a different approach than one that's stayed empty. We can detail truck beds as part of a Gold package, but heavily soiled beds (construction material, oil residue, etc.) may need to be discussed as an add-on — we'll always tell you upfront rather than surprise you.
Third-Row and Captain's Chair Interiors
Vehicles with three rows of seating or captain's chairs have meaningfully more interior surface to shampoo, vacuum, and wipe down than a standard 5-seat interior. If your third row folds down and sees light use, that's a quick pass. If it's in daily use with kids or pets, budget for it to take real time — we won't rush through it to hit an arbitrary clock.
Pricing: Why It's Higher Than Sedan or Coupe
Our SUV/Truck tier pricing across Basic, Silver, and Gold reflects the genuine time and product difference — not a blanket upcharge. More shampoo, more clay bar lubricant, more sealant, more labor hours. We price by vehicle class specifically so you're paying for the actual work involved, not a flat "SUV surcharge."
What to Expect on Appointment Day
- •Plan for a slightly longer appointment window than you might expect from a sedan service — we'll give you a specific estimate when you book based on your exact vehicle
- •Clear out cargo areas and third rows of loose items beforehand for the most thorough result
- •Let us know about any unusual bed use, pet hair volume, or spill history so we can plan product and time accordingly
